Rank Tracking

Track keyword positions over time.

Rank Tracking monitors where your tracked keywords rank in Google over time. Grandranker takes a daily snapshot of each tracked keyword's position and keeps the history. You can see movement over time, not just today's number.

The Rank Tracking screen

Positions come from your Google Search Console connection: Grandranker reads the position Google itself reported for each query and stores it as that day's snapshot. That means GSC must be connected before rank tracking can work. Without it, the page shows a "Connect Google Search Console" alert.

Snapshots are taken automatically once a day. You can also click Refresh Rankings at the top of the page to take a fresh snapshot on demand.

Overview stats

Five cards summarize your tracked set:

  • Tracked Keywords: how many keywords are being tracked.
  • Top 10: keywords ranking in Google's top 10, with the top-3 count underneath.
  • Improved (7d): keywords that moved up in the last 7 days.
  • Declined (7d): keywords that moved down.
  • Avg. Position: the average position across all tracked keywords.

Position Distribution

A donut chart groups your keywords into position buckets: Top 3, 4-10, 11-20, 21-50, 51-100 and Not Ranking. Over time you want keywords migrating from the outer buckets toward Top 3. "Not Ranking" means no position was found for that keyword. Usually this happens because the page is new, not yet indexed, or ranking below the range Google reports.

Top Improvers and Top Decliners

Two cards list the biggest movers of the last 7 days: the keywords that gained the most positions and the ones that lost the most, each with its current position and the size of the change. Look at decliners first. A drop on a keyword that drives traffic is more urgent than a gain on one that doesn't.

Tracked Keywords table

The full list of tracked keywords with columns for search Volume, current Position, 7d Change, 30d Change and Best position ever recorded. Position badges are color-coded by bucket, and "Not ranking" is flagged explicitly.

Click any row to expand its ranking history chart. This shows the day-by-day position line for that keyword, built from the stored snapshots.

Starting to track keywords

Tracking is enabled per keyword from your keyword pool. See Keywords. If you haven't tracked anything yet, the page shows a "No tracked keywords" card with a Go to Keywords button. Tracked keywords can also be managed programmatically through the REST API.

FAQ

How is this different from the Keywords view on the Analytics page?

The Analytics page shows Google's averaged position for whatever queries happened to appear in Search Console during the period. Rank Tracking follows a fixed set of keywords you chose, snapshots them daily, and keeps the history. This includes best position and 7/30-day change.

Why does a keyword show "Not ranking"?

No position was found in the Search Console data for that keyword. This happens with new pages, unindexed pages, and keywords ranking beyond what Google reports. If the page is live, give it time and check indexing.

Why did nothing change after I clicked Refresh Rankings?

The refresh takes a new snapshot from the latest Search Console data. GSC data itself lags a few days. Refreshing more often than daily rarely shows new movement.

Do rank snapshots feed anything else?

Yes. Client Reports are built from the same snapshot history, so the report your client sees matches what you see here.
